On 6 July 2002, Mukesh's father died. Dhirubhai left no will for the partition of the empire, due to this there was tension between the brothers. His mother, Kokilaben Ambani, resolved the dispute by splitting the company into two.

Mukesh Ambani received Reliance Industries Limited and Bhartiya Petrochemicals Corporation Limited. Under the guidance of Mukesh Ambani, the company built the world's largest on-ground petroleum refinery at Jamnagar, India.

In the year 2010, 660,000 barrels per day were produced. In 2016, Jio launched its 4G smartphone under the brand name 'LYF'. This smartphone was the third best selling smartphone in India that year. In September that year, Jio 4G was launched commercially.

His younger brother Anil is also a well-known businessman, apart from this, he also has two sisters who are married. Mukesh Ambani married about 27 years ago and his wife's name is Neeta, who is currently handling his business with him. The couple has a total of three children, out of which one is a girl and two are boys.
